About
EnviroMarket Ltd provides information analysis and advice with a single vision in mind: radically enhanced access to capital for the sustainable management of forest and marine ecosystems.
The business was co-founded in 2005 by two former-City financiers, Simon Petley and Jon Grayson, who met as postgraduate students of Environmental Technology at Imperial College, London.
Climate change is the single biggest threat facing mankind, although, in a number of regions, water scarcity and biodiversity loss present an equally potent and potentially more immediate challenge.
Some climate change is now unavoidable; future policy responses are likely to combine ongoing efforts at mitigation with an increased emphasis on adaption. Our ability to limit the worst impacts of climate change largely depends on global efforts at mitigation over the next 10 years.
The task dwarfs anything yet achieved, or, indeed attempted, by mankind. Success requires, at a minimum, wholesale changes in production and distribution, retrofitting or replacing existing infrastructure with low or zero carbon technology, and the introduction of products, processes and services with lowest possible ecological footprint. All this at a time when the principal measure of human well being remains economic growth and consumption premised on unfettered access to fossil fuel.
Roughly 17% of man-made carbon emissions are the result of tropical deforestation and degradation. Achieving a reduction in emissions from this source is essential in meeting overall targets, but requires action at local, national and global level. These actions – collectively referred to as REDD+ (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) – are already underway.
